Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

It’s clear—precision is important during diagnosis. Of all imaging technologies, MRI or Magnetic Resonance Imaging gives doctors the clearest, most precise image of the inside of the body. It’s sophisticated, and uses a strong magnetic field to show the structure and detail of organs, soft tissue and bones, which can pinpoint all types of issues from abnormalities to disease. Deaconess Illinois Union County performs MRIs with your comfort in mind. Nervous about your test? Just speak to one of a staff member.

A new, fixed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit at Deaconess Illinois Union County provides more detailed pictures of patients’ anatomy, a roomier exam area and decreased noise – which supports more rapid and accurate diagnosis, and a more pleasant exam experience for the patient.

An MRI machine safely and painlessly examines the body’s organs and soft tissues such as joints, tendons and ligaments. Commonly used for sports injuries, it also is used to find problems such as tumors, bleeding, injury, blood vessel diseases, or infection. Using a powerful magnetic field and a computer, an MRI unit scans and produces computerized pictures of specific areas of the body, without using radiation. During the exam, the patient must lie inside a scanner and remain very still while the exam is underway.
